Too many niche marketers have wild fantasies about making big money on the Internet almost overnight and give up in frustration when that doesn’t happen. Just look around at the sales pitches geared toward niche marketing and Internet marketers. Pitches that promise if you’ll only buy this program or ebook or report that you will make an enormous amount of money working only a few minutes a day. Hogwash!

Slow and Steady

The truth is it takes a while to build up a successful niche marketing business. It takes time and a lot of hard work. In fact, you’ll probably work harder and make less money than you did at your current or last job. In the beginning, that is. However, if you work hard and work smart, you can build up a successful niche marketing business that will pay you for years to come.

You may have very little website traffic in the beginning. You may be working 10, 12, or 14 hours a day for weeks and wonder why you bother when you are getting so little traffic. Often, however, it takes the search engines weeks to index new sites and this could be the case. Besides, you should be so busy optimizing your site the first few weeks and getting it ready for a steady flow of traffic that you don’t have time to be concerned that you haven’t made your first million yet.

Don’t Fall for every Internet Marketing Sales Pitch

Niche marketing is just another form of Internet marketing, although it is certainly one of the best forms. Be aware, though, that there are thousands of Internet marketers promoting thousands of products geared toward making you think you need their product in order to succeed as a niche marketer. Now, while there’s nothing wrong with taking a course, buying an ebook, or anything else that will offer you real guidance, don’t be swayed by every offer you come across. While you can make a living in niche marketing, stay away from any claims with outlandish and instant promises of wealth.

Educate Yourself

Niche marketing isn’t rocket science but it is still in its infancy on the World Wide Web and no one has all the answers. While you don’t have to have all the answers either, you should start your business with a plan of action. You can learn a tremendous amount about niche marketing for free on the Internet without having to buy a thing. You should also seek out blogs of other niche marketers to see how others are setting them up, what products they are offering, and what, if anything, is missing. In other words, do your research and educate yourself about the business of niche marketing.

Duplicate Your Success

The great thing about niche marketing is that once you find a measure of success, it’s easy to replicate that success by doing the same thing all over again. Pick another niche, set up another blog or website and position your product line. Once you find success with niche marketing, you’ll find that it is much easier the second time around. While you don’t want to have so many websites that you can’t give them the attention they deserve and update them regularly, anyone can manage a few easily.

Every niche marketer makes mistakes and you will, too. But if you can learn from the mistakes of others and avoid even some of the common mistakes beginning marketers make, you will be ahead of the game. Following, are some of the most common mistakes niche marketers make and how to avoid them.

Choosing the Wrong Niche

In the brick and mortar world, location is everything. After all, if very little traffic passes by your place of business and few people know you are even in business, guess what? You’re out of business. It works the same way online. Your url is the virtual equivalent of your location so you must choose a domain that properly reflects your niche; therefore, you must choose wisely when choosing the topic for your niche marketing business. Sometimes, beginning marketers get so caught up in the current trend of the day that they fail to conduct the proper research to see if their idea is feasible. Take the time to properly research a handful of niches and then pick the best one based on your research.

Marketing to the Search Engines Instead of Customers

Keywords are important, search engine optimization is important, and driving traffic to your website is important. Without traffic, you won’t make sales. However, traffic alone won’t ensure sales either. What you need is targeted traffic. While there are various ways of getting targeted traffic to your site, you must ensure that your site is built to cater to the needs of your potential customers instead of getting so caught up in where your site will land in the search engine results that you are more concerned with keywords than you are with content. While keywords may land visitors on your site, they won’t keep them there. It is your job to ensure that once individuals find your site that they are met with quality content that will keep them on your site long enough to make a purchase. When you market to real people, you find a need and you fill that need. We’ve all been disappointed to find ourselves on sites that obviously cater to the search engines and have nothing of real value to offer. Make sure your website offers real value and you’ll profit accordingly.

Giving up too Soon

Despite the late night infomercials and the thousands of online pitches, no one works 30 minutes a day and makes $5,000 a week, or even a month. At least, not in the beginning. In the beginning, you’ll work hard and be lucky to average the federal hourly minimum wage. The trick is to keep working hard because you are building an empire; one that will serve you well in the long run and pay you for years to come. Eventually, you’ll get to the point where all you have to do is update your site but that position only comes to those who work very hard.

Niche marketing isn’t rocket science. While it is very possible to make a lucrative income in this business, it also takes tons of hard work and persistence. There is no telling how many more successful niche marketers there would be if thousands didn’t give up every day. But the sad fact is that too many of us want instant gratification and don’t have the patience it takes to build the empire brick by brick. This isn’t’ a get rich quick scheme. What it is will offer you the opportunity of a lifetime; the chance to work for yourself for the rest of your life doing something you truly enjoy. Never, ever give up!

Although you don’t have to have any specialized knowledge or training to be successful as a niche marketer, you will have to educate yourself regarding several aspects of the niche marketing business. Fortunately, all of the tools you need are right at your fingertips; on the information superhighway.

Research Your Niche

Even if you know a lot about your niche topic, you will still need to conduct a certain amount of research on it to ensure there is sufficient interest for you to build a niche marketing business around it. You’ll also need to research the keywords associated with your niche because this will tell you what area of your niche is being searched by interested parties. Then, you’ll need to see how many websites are already devoted to that niche. If there are already two million websites built around the keywords that represent your niche marketing idea, this tells you the market is most likely oversaturated for that topic. However, if there are only 10 websites dedicated to your chosen niche topic, there may not be enough interest.

Research Affiliate Products

You’ll also need to research various affiliate programs and products in order to find a good fit for your niche marketing business. You’ll want to look for quality products that visitors to your site will be interested in purchasing. While you’re researching products to promote, also research other revenue generating methods for your niche. Promoting affiliate products is just one way you can generate revenue but you don’t want to limit yourself to that.

Research Technology

Unless you are already a tech guru, you’ll want to research and learn about the current technology you can put to work in your niche marketing business. Technology changes constantly and today, there are more tools than ever to make your niche marketing business much more manageable for beginners. While you won’t have to suddenly become a tech guru, you can learn about widgets and plug-ins and other things you can ad to your site to monetize it. With technology evolving faster than most people can keep up with it, it is important to stay on top of current market trends.. What works to sell products one day may not work as well the next day. Make sure you have the latest information regarding current technology and trends.

Research Other Niches

While your first website is in its infancy, begin to research what will become the topic of your next niche. Building up a niche marketing business is something you can work on each day because it takes some time to build it up to the point where you will realize the fruits of your labors. Visit other niche websites and take note of some of the topics being covered. Also, look at how the sites are put together to get ideas of things you might like to do in the future.

Niche marketing has been around for several years now. Many people have used its strategies to make a lot of money for themselves. If you have discovered a niche market, here are a few tips for making it profitable.

You have completed the hardest step — finding a niche market. It isn’t easy to come up with a product or service that hasn’t already been exploited in the market. Now that you have, you still have the task of turning your knowledge into cold hard cash.

1. Find the correct keywords. When people look for things on the Internet, they use words that describe them. Those search parameters are what you need to figure out in order to drive traffic to your website. There are tools on the Internet that assist you in finding a list of suitable keywords. You can also come up with some of your own and plug them into the search box and see how you are doing. Those words that return the fewest search results are the ones you want to use to build your business.

2. Use those keywords. A keyword is the search parameters that a person types into a search engine to get a list of results. With a niche, you want your name and website to grace the front page of the search results. How do you do that? By using keywords that pertain to your business but return few search results. Spread these words through your website in page headings, website content, and advertising. Try long tail keywords for better search results.

3. Create a domain name with keywords. You want people to find you, so don’t neglect your domain name as a keyword tool. Find catchy words from your keyword list and use them. If you aren’t sure how this will work out, create a free domain name and test it for a few months. Your domain name will bring in cash and you can change to a paid permanent website name similar to the free domain name.

4. Know your customers. Many businesses have spent big dollars marketing to the wrong customer and seeing very little profit. Learn where your customers originate using surveys and other incentives on your website. The more you know about your customers, the more you’ll be able to tighten up your marketing options to draw out more of them and direct them to your niche website and your products.

5. Open a virtual store on your site. Customers can peruse the pages and buy at their leisure after they’ve read about your products.

Are you looking for the next big thing that people need? Once you have discovered a viable niche market, learn how to make it profitable.

Growing traffic for niche websites can be done through two means: direct marketing and organic growth. While organic niche marketing takes more time, it tends to earn free or inexpensive traffic and boosts search engine rankings. Organic traffic consists of people who search for a topic and end up at your site but also can include people who link to the site through substantive blog and forum comments.

Finding Blogs and Forums

Finding the best blogs and forums for your niche marketing site simply requires a bit of searching. Try using a search engine and looking for “forum” and the topic of your niche marketing site. Several newer search engines, such as Technorati, are available specifically for searching for blogs. Google also now has a blog search option.

Take a few minutes to read through the blogs and forums you find. Determine if they are similar in content to your site and whether they would be likely to draw traffic through your niche marketing efforts. All marketing time and money are limited; be sure you are spending yours in the best way possible.

Commenting on Blogs and Forums

Some forums will not allow signatures, and you want to stay away from them. Almost all blogs allowing comments will permit readers to hotlink their names on the forum post. Once you have set up with signature links and a linked name, you can begin to make comments. These comments should be substantive. While the occasional “I agree” is fine, try to make sure you are presenting information that will help others. People will be more likely to click on your signature or name if they believe you are offering something good to the discussion.

Limiting Time Spent

Remember that your aim in commenting is your niche marketing campaign. You can very easily get caught up in the discussions going on and spend significant time at the sites just reading and commenting. At some point, you are spending free time there, rather than marketing time. The easiest way to limit your time is to have a set goal for number of comments and posts per day. Once you have reached that limit, return to other niche marketing tasks to keep yourself from spending unnecessary time on other blogs and forums.

Evaluating Success

Using a site statistics program, determine how often people are linking from a site to yours. Readers of some blogs are more likely to click links, and there is no real rhyme or reason to it. Instead you will need to monitor to determine which blogs and forums are worth your time and which ones you should abandon as effective marketing tools. Track not only the links but the amount of time those users stay on your site and whether they leave through ads, go to multiple pages, or seem really interested in what you have to offer.

Just try to keep in mind that your goal in commenting is to present yourself as a member of the community with knowledge to share. Allow that to guide your postings.

Marketing strategies help you to find and continually grow your customer base. Every Internet marketer uses such strategies to grow their business. The difference is that some markets are hungrier than others when it comes to selling your products.

If you’ve been around the marketing game for the last five years, you’ve heard about niche marketing. Niche marketing involves finding an as yet untapped area of business and dominating it for business success. Even if you knew what niche marketing was, the trick is actually finding those hungry markets that are waiting to be exploited.

One helpful tool is to know what market you want to do business in. Your business focus could be selling jewelry. There are a lot of jewelry sites out there. You may specialize in African jewelry. Once you have your area of expertise you can conduct some research to see exactly who you will market to.

Perform a little keyword research. Find keywords that describe your product. Some will get millions of search results. The idea is to whittle away at the list until you find keywords that will bring in the fewest results. You are beginning to zero in on your niche market.

Let’s say you are interested in something other than jewelry. The product or service you are promoting determines how much demand there is for the items. If no one wants them, you won’t sell any.

Do some test marketing. Advertise your product and see how well it sells. Set up an eBay account and hold a few auctions.

If that product doesn’t sell well, try another one. Some companies don’t appreciate niche marketing because they feel it will narrow their profits. In fact, niche marketing does just the opposite.

You probably have ideas for several products or services to offer on your website. Trying to advertise for more than one on a site can be tricky, especially if you want to establish a niche. Set up a website for each product and market them separately.

It may take several tries to find the product that makes your niche profitable. The word here is patience. Several niche websites may be required to find even one that is a goldmine.

Another way to find hungry markets is to learn about your customers. There is nothing worse than spending money marketing to the wrong group of people. Set up polls and surveys on the website to get information from all traffic that visits you.

Ask yourself a few questions about your product or service to get you going in the right direction:

* Who would benefit the most from your service or product?
* Who can afford your service or product?
* What can you offer that is different from others?

Finding niche markets that are ripe for profit requires some legwork on your part. It may also require more than one website to realize the success that you seek. But, it will be worth it to be the first to introduce a new market.

Niche marketing is a term used first in general business practices but expanded to include the Internet as the newest marketing frontier. Niche marketing comes from the idea of a person or company finding its own little corner in an otherwise crowded market. For an individual, “finding a niche” means determining what the person does best.
For a company, “finding a niche” means finding out how the company can best reach a small segment of a larger demographic group. Niche marketing in traditional marketing may be finding a way to reach readers of espionage thrillers among the thousands of books on the market. One book marketing company may become adept at getting this specific type of book into readers’ hands, and then the focus of this company becomes niche marketing espionage thrillers only.

When it comes to the Internet, the use of the term refers to the way in which affiliate marketers find their target audience. Affiliate marketers make money by signing on with companies selling products. Those companies then offer a small percentage of the sale price to the affiliate marketers who bring in the customer. Affiliate marketers practice the essence of niche marketing online. Rather than focusing on a larger group, these marketers are trying to find customers who will be interested in the very specific products they have available.

Niche marketing online means finding ways to connect with potential buyers interested in the products being offered. An affiliate marketer for a hardware website may decide to focus only on people purchasing power tools, for instance. The marketer then goes about finding places where people who purchase power tools go. The answer may be a blog about how to use various power tools or a site offering frank reviews of various kinds of tools. By using niche marketing, the Internet marketer is learning to respond to the needs of a specific group of consumers and tailoring articles and websites to that group.

The primary benefit of niche marketing, especially online, is that it levels the playing field for small-budget marketers. Rather than creating diluted messages, a niche marketing campaign can include a very specific message intended to appeal only to a small group of people. These messages can be tailored more specifically than general marketing messages, which means they will reach the target audience with a laser point. Doing that means the smaller marketer can spend limited marketing dollars in a smart way.

Another benefit to marketing to a small group is that when doing so, one can be candid in a way that isn’t possible with larger marketing. When it comes to non-mainstream environmentalists, for example, one can make fun of bamboo t-shirts and fancy recycling bins as wastes and in the process appeal to this very small group to purchase a book or other product that speaks to their specific interest. While the ad would not be appealing, and may even be off-putting to larger groups of environmentalists, it will work very well with this small slice of the environmental movement. That identification and connection is the key to successful niche marketing.
